Our Community and Partnership

Our Partnership With OCTD

The Organization of Canadian Tamils with Disabilities (OCTD), is a reputable organization among the Canadian Tamils which has been providing essential support to persons with disabilities and families that have children with disability. Their programs are tailored to be culturally suited to the Tamil community and providing services bilingually in both Tamil and English has proven to be effective for their clients. Even though we have known them for many years, we had the opportunity to work with them closely since February 2017. Since then our teachers regularly offer yoga classes and cooking workshops once a week. Our teachers and youth members also volunteer in OCTD’s workshops giving a hand in their mandate to engage and skill building initiatives for their clients. One of our teachers is also a member of the OCTD board, serving as a director providing advisory services in the aspect of Yoga, Health and wellness promotion.

Our Partnership With Aathi Silambam Martial Arts Academy

Aathi Silambam Martial Arts Academy is a Tamil Heritage Martial art school operating in Ontario over 20 years in Canada. We have partnered with them since Jan 2016 to offer free rejuvenating yoga lessons to their students, help break down the teaching modules to suite people of various age categories for example children and seniors needed modified preparatory yogic exercises which made it easier for them to learn the silambam art, provide advisory services and collaborate in exchanging training techniques, research on the philosophy behind both yoga and silambam in an on going basis.

Our Partnership With Thai Veedu

One of our Yoga teacher writes articles on Yoga Asanas, Breathing techniques, and general yogic lifestyle in Tamil on a monthly basis for the past 2 years. This has a greater welcome in the community and the outreach through such news medium created an awareness of yoga among seniors and new immigrants.

Our Partnership With Centre for Tamil Heritage and Culture

Yogasalai community has partnered with the Centre for Tamil Heritage and Culture (CTHC) since Jan 2012. The CTHC organizes the Tamil Heritage Festival in Canada – the Markham Thai Pongal Villa / Tamil Heritage Celebration.  The festival which began as a simple event with 300 people attendance in 2012, has grown year after year to a 2 day grand celebration which takes place at the Markham Civic Centre and the Flato Markham Theatre.
