Meiyiyal Koodal
APRIL 19, 2026 · CANADA KANDASWAMY TEMPLE SOCIETY, TORONTO, ONTARIO
The practice of 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Vanakkam) is far more than a physical challenge—it is a profound yogic journey of discipline, endurance, and inner transformation. Repeating the sequence 108 times creates a powerful rhythm between breath, movement, and awareness, allowing practitioners to move beyond ordinary limits and discover deeper reserves of strength and focus.
The number 108 holds sacred significance in many spiritual traditions. In yoga, it symbolizes wholeness, cosmic order, and the connection between the individual and the universe. Practising 108 Sun Salutations becomes a moving meditation, where each round is an offering of effort, intention, and gratitude.
This year’s gathering was made even more special with close to 100 participants taking part in the practice. Including participants, parents, and supporters, over 120 people came together for this event. Their presence, energy, and collective spirit created an inspiring atmosphere and reminded us that yoga is not only an individual path, but also a shared community journey built on unity and support.
The event was 100% free to participate, made possible through the dedication and service of all the teachers of Yogasalai and Aathi Silambam, together with the gracious support of Canada Kandaswamy Temple in providing the venue. Their generosity helped create an accessible and welcoming space for all.
Physically, the practice develops stamina, flexibility, balance, and coordination. It strengthens the muscles, improves circulation, energizes the body, and awakens vitality. Mentally, it trains concentration, resilience, and determination. As fatigue arises, practitioners learn to steady the mind, regulate the breath, and continue with calmness and courage.
For children and youth, completing 108 Sun Salutations is an especially meaningful milestone. It teaches patience, self-belief, perseverance, and the value of preparation. Through dedicated training, they experience how consistent effort can lead to extraordinary achievement
Most importantly, the practice offers a glimpse into the transformative power of yoga. It reminds us that growth happens when we step beyond comfort, remain steady through challenge, and trust the process. The journey of 108 Sun Salutations is not only counted in repetitions—it is measured in the confidence, clarity, and inner strength gained along the way.

Meiyiyal Koodal
February 1, 2026 · Scarborough Civic Centre
Our third annual Meiyiyal Koodal was a beautiful morning of shared wisdom and practice. Families, youth, and long-time practitioners came together to explore the meeting point between Tamil philosophy, yoga, and traditional arts.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us and made this gathering so meaningful. More is to come — the seed has been planted. 🙏
